Historic 1900s Machinery Relocation

North American Millwright Services recently executed a complex machinery relocation for Peabody Press, moving historic 1900s print presses and supporting equipment to their new facility. The project included rigging and transporting large presses, platemakers, spray booths, storage racks, and tooling cabinets, showcasing our expertise in careful handling, heavy hauling, and precise installation.

Challenge
The relocation involved several logistical obstacles:

  • Navigating busy city streets with large, top-heavy machinery
  • Moving equipment along uneven pathways and up stairs
  • Working around limited door clearances
  • Managing unexpected rain, which created slippery conditions on road plates

Additionally, the historic presses required careful handling to prevent damage, and coordination between drivers, rigging crews, and project management was critical.
Solution

Project management led strategic planning while the skilled rigging crew executed the move. The team built level bridges to safely transport the top-heavy presses and used rubber mat plates to keep road plates dry during rain. Our in-house heavy haul drivers facilitated the transport, ensuring smooth loading and delivery. The presses were rigged, loaded, transported, and precisely set at the new facility, completing the relocation safely and efficiently with minimal disruption to operations.
